Witton manufactures the Acriflow range of sodium polyacrylate based dispersants. These products are available as 40% solutions in water with a range of molecular weights and they can be used in a wide range of industrial applications to eliminate the formation of deposits of inorganic salts in aqueous systems or to produce slurries of inorganic solids. The dispersing agent increases the stability of a slurry and lowers the viscosity.
The optimum conditions for using the dispersing agents can be determined by preparing a graph of the viscosity of the slurry against the amount of Acriflow product used as shown below for china clay.
Typical applications for Acriflow dispersants
These include reducing the viscosity of dispersions of:
- Alumina
- Iron oxide
- Barytes
- Magnesium hydroxide
- Cements and concrete
- Mica
- Chrome yellows
- Molybdate reds
- Dolomite
- Talc
- Ferrite
- Zinc Oxide
- Fly ash
Reducing scale and deposits
- Boiler water treatment
- Cooling water treatment
- Sugar evaporators
Dispersants are used in the following industries
- Adhesive and latex manufacture
- Paint and coating
- Cement manufacture
- Paper making
- Concrete laying
- Pigment dispersion
- Mining and mineral processing
- Water treatment
For industries that prepare and handle slurries of solid using an Acriflow dispersant may allow a higher solids loading to be obtained without an increase in viscosity or a lower viscosity without a drop in the solid content of the slurry. Using a dispersant to reduce boiler scale improves the efficiency and reduces downtime.
